swisNot Prize
The swisNot network regularly awards a prize, the “swisNot Prize”, in recognition of the special efforts of individuals in Switzerland in the notarial field.
swisNot Prize 2025
On 8 May 2026, Dr. Margaux Schroeter was awarded the 5th swisNot Prize for her doctoral thesis entitled “Inheritance Collation: Inequalities Created by an Institution Designed to Prevent Them.” The distinction was presented during a cruise on Lake Neuchâtel attended by members of the swisNot network.
In her thesis, Dr. Schroeter provides an in-depth analysis of the institution of inheritance collation under Swiss law. She highlights the inequalities that can arise from an institution intended to ensure equality among heirs and puts forward several proposals for reflection on its future development. The jury of the swisNot Prize praised the work for its academic excellence as well as its practical relevance for notaries and other legal practitioners.
swisNot Prize 2021
On September 16, 2021, the third swisNot Prize was awarded to Mrs. Emilie M. PRAZ, Law PhD, for her thesis “L’entreprise de l’un des époux en droit matrimonial” (published in 2018 by Schulthess Editions, volume 375 of the works of the Faculty of Law of the University of Fribourg). This thesis presents the legal situation of a married couple where one of the spouses operates a business. It deals with the questions raised in terms of general effects of marriage and matrimonial regimes in this context and suggests possible tools to arrange the patrimonial relations within a couple.

swisNot Prize 2018
On January 18, 2018, Fribourg law professor Paul-Henri STEINAUER was awarded the swisNot Prize in gratitude for his outstanding contribution to the development and application of Swiss civil law.
Professor Steinauer has written numerous reference works on the law of natural persons, matrimonial property regimes, inheritance law and real property rights.
In addition to his university lectures, he has given countless conferences and participated in numerous seminars, including the annual swisNot seminars, at which he has given Swiss lawyers the benefit of his exceptional scientific and pedagogical skills.
